T&T cop hockey title

Trinidad and Tobago walked away with the Pan American Cup in both the men’s and women’s competition. Trinidad narrowly edged out Jamaica 1-0 in the female competition whilst they put on an impressive 4-1 over Barbados for the men’s title. Get more details about the competition here.

John carries team to crucial win

Trinidadian international Stern John opened and closed the scoring in the Southampton - West Bromwich Albion match to lift the team to a 3-2 win. John got the opening goal from a cross from an Inigo Idiakez in the 17th minute from 12 yards out. Southampton made it 2-0 through left back Rudi Skacel’s effort from 25 yards out. West Brom got back 2 goals through Andrade Teixeira and Robert Koren. John sealed it for Southampton, however, in the 64th minute after he got a touch on Dyer’s low cross to steer it into the back of the net. Get more on this story here.

The Olympic qualifiers are now on for Women’s soccer in the region. The qualifiers thus far have yielded some rather interesting results, the most astounding ones being the Cuban victory over the British Virgin Islands - 21:0 and the Trinidad and Tobago win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines - 9:0. Siu Butts to be inducted in AU Hall of Fame

Trinidad and Tobago’s very own Stacey Siu Butt will be inducted into the American University’s Hall of Fame next January in recognition of her efforts which lead to national renown in the mid-1990s. At AU she had the following accolades:

  • US collegiate Rookie of the Year
  • first team All Central Athletic Association
  • Took the UA team to the CAA finals for the first time in its history
  • Most goals in a game
  • Most points in a game
  • Most goals in a season
  • Most points in a season
  • most career points and goals
  • co owner of the CAA record for goals in a tournament

TT Volleyballers beat Guyana

It was close going but the Trinidad and Tobago men’s volleyball team came out on top 3-1. With the score standing at 25-21, 22-25, 25,14, 25-23 the TT men triumphed over their Guyana counterparts to signal the start of the National Volleyball Championships in Trinidad. The tournament features 2 months of volleyball action at five venues throughout Trinidad. Get more details here.

born January 25,1987 in Siparia, Trinidad. She began boxing at age 11 under the tutelage of Kim Quashie. She made her boxing debut at age 13 in Port of Spain with a 3rd round knock out of fellow debutante Nimba Wahtuse. Currently she is the WBA, WBC, NABC, WBE and IBWF Junior Middleweight Champion. Warner plays blocker!

Jack Warner, the Trinidadian president of CONCACAF and FIFA vice-president has been quoted as saying that he would do all he could to prevent England hosting the 2018 World Cup

“There are moves to give it to England and I must fight that” he said.

This has resulted in a strong response from England’s FA. Geoff Thompson said they were “shocked and disappointed” by the comments. Check the story out here.

T&T Bissessar holds Dragster World Record

Sheldon Bissessar earned the top world record for the 1/4mile with an ET of 6.45 seconds at Rockingham Dragway, Rockingham, North Carolina. He made history with the fastest time racing with gas and nitrous using a converter instead of a clutch engaged transmission. Read more here

Great Race for August 26

The countdown is on to the 39th annual Carib Great Race. The race is one of the longest offshore powerboat events in the world. Darrel Brown injured, out of Pan Am Games

A foot injury has forced Darrel Brown out of the 15th Pan American Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Yesterday, the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee’s secretary general Brian Lewis said the 2003 World Championship men’s 100 metres silver medallist will have a medical evaluation “at the earliest opportunity”.
