Set a measly 91 to win after a horrible batting display by Jamaica and some brilliant bowling, Trinidad raced to 94/1 in 9.2 overs. Lendl Simmons contributed 26 and W. Perkins made 50 runs to cement the new Caribbean champions position. Read more about the effort here.

With a commitment from Cuba to send a contingent to the inaugural Caribbean Games, the effort is shaping up to be one of the better sporting extravaganza’s the region has seen. CEO Felipe Noguera says that T&T will be in for a treat. The games are expected to host some 2000 athletes from 27 countries in the English, Spanish, French and Dutch speaking Caribbean. Boxing, netball, swimming, track and field and volleyball are all on the roster to be featured at the games.

Trinidad and Tobago walked away with the Pan American Cup in both the men’s and women’s competition. Trinidad narrowly edged out Jamaica 1-0 in the female competition whilst they put on an impressive 4-1 over Barbados for the men’s title. Get more details about the competition here.

Trinidadian international Stern John opened and closed the scoring in the Southampton - West Bromwich Albion match to lift the team to a 3-2 win. John got the opening goal from a cross from an Inigo Idiakez in the 17th minute from 12 yards out. Southampton made it 2-0 through left back Rudi Skacel’s effort from 25 yards out. West Brom got back 2 goals through Andrade Teixeira and Robert Koren. John sealed it for Southampton, however, in the 64th minute after he got a touch on Dyer’s low cross to steer it into the back of the net. Get more on this story here.
The Olympic qualifiers are now on for Women’s soccer in the region. The qualifiers thus far have yielded some rather interesting results, the most astounding ones being the Cuban victory over the British Virgin Islands - 21:0 and the Trinidad and Tobago win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines - 9:0. Trinidad and Tobago’s very own Stacey Siu Butt will be inducted into the American University’s Hall of Fame next January in recognition of her efforts which lead to national renown in the mid-1990s. At AU she had the following accolades:

It was close going but the Trinidad and Tobago men’s volleyball team came out on top 3-1. With the score standing at 25-21, 22-25, 25,14, 25-23 the TT men triumphed over their Guyana counterparts to signal the start of the National Volleyball Championships in Trinidad. She made her boxing debut at age 13 in Port of Spain with a 3rd round knock out of fellow debutante Nimba Wahtuse. Currently she is the WBA, WBC, NABC, WBE and IBWF Junior Middleweight Champion. Jack Warner, the Trinidadian president of CONCACAF and FIFA vice-president has been quoted as saying that he would do all he could to prevent England hosting the 2018 World Cup
“There are moves to give it to England and I must fight that” he said.
This has resulted in a strong response from England’s FA. Geoff Thompson said they were “shocked and disappointed” by the comments. Check the story out here.
