It was all smiles and cheers for the Jamaicans who romped to a 5-1 victory over St. Vincent and the Grenadines in a friendly held in Jamaica. A double strike from Marlon King, and others from Demar Phillips
, Deon Burton and Ricardo Gardner put the game away from the Vincentians. A consolation strike came from Marlon James in the 57th but too little too late the Vincentians bemoaned.
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation has ousted it’s previous president Major St. Clair Leacock and put in his place Joseph Delves by the narrowest of margins. Leacock was beaten by 1 vote. When the votes were counted, Leacock stood at 39 and Delves at 40.
The Olympic qualifiers are now on for Women’s soccer in the region. The qualifiers thus far have yielded some rather interesting results, the most astounding ones being the Cuban victory over the British Virgin Islands - 21:0 and the Trinidad and Tobago win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines - 9:0. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines star forward Sophia Young had a great game scoring 22 points to pull the San Antonio Silver Stars into their first ever playoff berth. The 6′ 1″ Young scored 22 points pulled down 5 rebounds and dished out 2 assists in the sterling effort. Drafted fourth overall from Baylor, Young proved her mettle and the reason why she was named to the Wester Conference All Star’s team last year. Read more about her here.
