Honduras thrashed Puerto Rico 4-0 in their world cup qualifier in Honduras on Wednesday night. Julio Cesar deLeon started the deluge for Honduraas in the 24th minute. That was followed by Wilson Palacios in the 49th, then a double by David Suazo in the 50th and the 89th. The return leg will be played in Puerto Rico on June 14.
The Olympic qualifiers are now on for Women’s soccer in the region. The qualifiers thus far have yielded some rather interesting results, the most astounding ones being the Cuban victory over the British Virgin Islands - 21:0 and the Trinidad and Tobago win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines - 9:0. Puerto Rico, through a spirited performance by Elias Ayuso who scored 39 points, beat Brazil to cop the bronze medal at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying event. It was merely a contest of bragging rights, however, as both teams failed in their bid to qualify for the Beijing Olympics on this round.
