All the excuses in the world by Rene Simoes could not negate the result. Grenada’s Spice Boys stepped up to the plate and delivered a sterling performance to shock the Reggae Boyz with a 2-1 win. Grenada which is ranked 143rd was behind early when Ricardo Fuller struck in the 18th minute for the Jamaicans, but a feisty second half by the Spice Boys saw Sharlie Joseph and Jason Roberts finding the back of the net.
“It was a tough loss for us and nobody likes to lose, but we have to use what we have learned and be motivated..” said Rene Simoes Technical Director for the Jamaican program

In a keenly contested friendly, Grenada was able to come away with a 1-1 draw thanks to an early strike by Cassim Langaigne that kept the home side ahead for much of the contest. A collision in the 70th minute saw the Grenadian substitute goalkeeper being stretchered off and being replaced by an outfielder and seemed to mark a change in fortune for the visitors. On the 77th minute, a John Brayford cross found the head of Michael Morrison and was slotted home much to the chagrin of the home crowd.

Brazil saw some fine athletics on display at the Grande Premio Sao Paulo/Caixa de Atletismo meeting on Thursday. None more so than Randy Lewis’s amazing jump which not only won the triple jump event but also erased a national record that he had set last year. The Grenadian leaped to a nation leading 17.49m bettering his previous mark of 17.43. It’s the second best distance this season even with the complaint from the Grenadian that he had not been able to effectively rest from his trip on Tuesday.

Despite the fact that only 5 yachts turned out for the event, the organizers of Grenada’s Classic Yacht Regatta are pleased with the outcome of the event. The yachts sailed from Port Louis to St. David’s with Thalia being declared the overall winner.
Kenny Coombs, the organizer who orchestrated Antigua Classics, remembers that in the outset of the Antiguan event no more than 6 or 7 yachts participated. As adviser to Grenadian James Benoit, he said the regatta went pretty smoothly and the sailors had a lot of fun. The next Grenada Classic Yacht Regatta will be held from February 19 until February 22, 2009.
