DR women go down to US

The Women’s Volleyball team from the Dominican Republic went down 3-0 to the US in the FIVB World Grand Prix Pool E action at Wroclaw in Poland. The team was swept 25-13, 25-21,25-20 on June 28, 2008. Team USA is now 4-1 overall in the World Grand Prix with four consecutive victories.

“We actually prepared for a difficult, five set match”, said US Coach Jenny Lang Ping “Dominican Republic is a good team. They got the qualification and they won the 2008 Pan American Cup. They play very well.”

From the US team, Kim Glass won the most valuable player awarded after scoring 14 points off 8 kills.

CONCACAF women make run for gold

The Olympic qualifiers are now on for Women’s soccer in the region. The qualifiers thus far have yielded some rather interesting results, the most astounding ones being the Cuban victory over the British Virgin Islands - 21:0 and the Trinidad and Tobago win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines - 9:0. Felix Sanchez medals in 400M hurdles

The Dominican Republic was not to be outdone in Osaka. They mined their first medal on the track with a silver medal from their very own Felix Sanchez. Sanchez ran a season’s best 48.01s to cop the medal ahead of Marek Plawgo of Poland 48.12s and behind Trinidadian born Kerron Clement 47.61s who now runs for the USA.
