The ding dong battle between Jamaica and Trinidad had yet another chapter written yesterday as the Jamaicans capped a successful campaign at Sabina Park with a perfect 3/3 by winning the Carib Beer Challenge Trophy against its rivals.
Helped by some fantastic spin bowling action from Nikita Miller who closed with 5/92, Jamaica won the contest with nine wickets and two days to spare. Final scores: Trinidad and Tobago 121 and 241, Jamaica 293 and 71 for 1.

That’s the sentiment that most Windians expressed when heavy rains caused the third one day international between West Indies and Sri Lanka to be called off after just 18 overs into the replying innings. The West Indies nonetheless won the series 2-0. Get more info on the series here.

The final audited report shows that last year’s ICC Cricket World Cup held in the Caribbean is believed to be the largest ever. The event surplus is quoted as being at US$53.9 million.
With US$29.3 million paid out to the local organizing committees, and the West Indies Cricket board sharing 25% of the proceeds with territorial ticket boards, the West Indies have hosted the highest ever recorded returns on cricket sales in the history of the World Cup. Congratulations to the governments. It seems we got something right this go round.

It was a sad state of affairs for the Guineans after they were sent packing in a six wicket defeat to the young West Indies team. Both teams were contending for a place in the Plate Final of the ICC Youth World Cup. Chasing a modest target of 90 runs for victory, the West Indians met that target with 207 balls to spare. Of note was Kieran Powell’s knock of 37 where he was scoring at a run a ball rate. The West Indians will now face India int he final. Read more about that here.

Set a measly 91 to win after a horrible batting display by Jamaica and some brilliant bowling, Trinidad raced to 94/1 in 9.2 overs. Lendl Simmons contributed 26 and W. Perkins made 50 runs to cement the new Caribbean champions position. Read more about the effort here.
Wavell Hinds and Xavier Marshall went all out smashing an unbeaten 50 and 49 respectively to lead Jamaica to a win on the third day of their third round match at Sabina Park. With homeground advantage, the Jamaicans ploughed ahead dismissing Guyana first for 177 in their second innings prior to tea with Odean Brown shining with his 3 wickets for 35 runs from 16 overs. With that stage set and the Jamaicans needing 109 for victory, the Jamaicans charged to victory with Hinds and Marshall making that impressive stand. Jamaica now stands top of the table and await next month’s match between itself and Trinidad at Port of Spain.

In the face of the recent firestorm the ICC has announced plans to fly in a top official to ease tensions in India’s tour of Australia. Bucknor is to be replaced by Billy Bowden for the third Test in Perth following complaints from the Indian team about his performance in Sydney. In an ill tempered second test, Bucknor is accused of making a number of controversial decisions in favour of the Australians. According to the ICC
“The decision by the ICC to replace Steve for this match was made in the best interests of the game and the series”
