Tommy Peirce passes

Well known Bajan sporting enthusiast and former Director of Barbados Cricket Association Tommy Peirce has passed. He died in his sleep at his home during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Peirce was best known for his wide sporting interests and his administrative savvy in that regard. He was also the go to person for the pitch preparation at Kensington Oval for several international series. In horse racing he was a director and senior steward of the Barbados Turf Club and a well known breeder and owner. He will be sorely missed.

Mark Holder takes Challenge Cup

Bajan Mark Holder is the winner of the Challenge Cup in the  2007 Suzuki Soup Bowl Pro Event. The St. Joseph’s native used better wave selection and technique to achieve maximum points and edge out fellow countryman Jason Apparicio and points leader Trinidadian Alan Davis. Kudos to Collymore on being selected Bajan captain

Fast bowler Corey Colleymore has been chosen to lead the Bajans in to the upcoming KFC Cup. Conde Riley made the announcement at  recent press conference. Colleymore seemed elated. He was quoted as saying:

“To captain your nation or your  country is always an honour and I will try to do it to the best of my ability”.

Collymore has represented the West Indies in 30 Tests and 84 one day internationals. Check out his bio here.

Gibson to serve England

The former West Indian all-rounder Otis Gibson has been called by England to serve as their bowling coach for its tours of Sri Lanka. The 38 year old will be touring with the team from October 1-13. Gibson has been phenomenal on the county circuit with Durham probably tipping the scales in his favor. Read more about his accomplishments here.

Garner now head of BCA

It’s official, the new elected head of the Barbados Cricket Association is former West Indian fast bowler Joel “Big Bird” Garner. He beat his closest rival Calvin Hope by 40 votes to secure the position. Windies Sports wishes him all the best in his venture.
