Bolt celebrates return with win in Switzerland
Usain Bolt Returns With World-Leading Equalling 9.82secs | WORLD-TRACK GLOBAL SITE
After spending sometime off the track because of an injury, Usain Bolt went back to business when running a world-leading time – equalling that of fellow countryman Asafa Powell, to win the men’s 100m dash at Thursday’s Lausanne Athletissima – IAAF Diamond League meeting in Switzerland.
Following his pre-race show – dancing and thrilling the gathering with his familiar sporting fashion, the Jamaican triple Olympic champion produced 9.82secs to beat fellow countryman and training partner Yohan Blake, who ran 9.96secs.
Dutch Antilles’ Churandy Martina was third in 10.16.
World bronze medallist Carmelita Jeter won the women’s race in 10.99secs
American champion Debbie Dunn got back to winning ways following her recent defeat to Allyson Felix by winning the women’s 400m dash in another sub-50 seconds time.
The World Indoor champion clocked 49.81secs to win the event over the Jamaican pair of Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams-Mills.
Taking command of the race in the homestraight, Dunn pulled away to beat Olympic silver medallist Williams, who ran a seasonal best of 50.04 and Williams-Mills, who also ran year best time for her, at 50.04.
Amantle Montsho (BOT, 50.07) and Jamaica’s Rosemarie Whyte (50.67), also recorded year best times.
In another gallant run for home, Kenya’s inform David Rudisha won the men’s 800m.
The world-leader ran a very impressive 1:43.25, even after looking around in his approach to home – to defeat world champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi of South Africa (1:43.58 SB) and Kenya’s Alfred Kirwa Yego (1:43.97 SB).
USA’s Bershawn Jackson held his form to win the men’s 400m hurdles over his fellow American challenger Angelo Taylor.
Jackson sped home to win in 47.62secs, defeating Taylor, who ran 47.76 and Dominican Republic’s former world and Olympic champion Felix Sanchez (48.17).
Both Taylor and Sanchez were running seasonal bests.
Olympic champion and world record holder Dayron Robles of Cuban won the men’s 110m hurdles event in 13.01secs. USA’s Ryan Wilson finished second in 13.21, with another American hurdler, David Payne, taking third in 13.22.
Jamaica’s Dwight Thomas and Czech Republic’s Petr Svoboda were both disqualified.
In her last jump of the competition, Cuba’s Yargelis Savigne set a world-leading mark of 14.99m to win the women’s triple jump event.
The Cuban star had the competition already won, after jumping 14.82 in the third run and then 14.81m in the 5th.
She had fouled on her first, second and fourth attempts.
Finishing second was Kazakhstan’s Olga Rypakova, with a mark of 14.60m, with Belgium’s Svetlana Bolshakova (14.43m) finishing third.
Ethiopian Gelete Burka was also in world-leading form – running 3:59.28 to win the women’s 1500m race.
