American speedsters Tyson Gay and Carmelita Jeter ended their seasons on a winning note with 100 metres victories at the Daegu Pre-World Championships meeting in South Korea on Friday.
The pair who has been dominant since the world championships in Berlin last month landed two other fine performances on the windy evening.
Gay, the second fastest man ever over the 100m, won that discipline in 9.94seconds, running into a slight headwind, as he continued his dominance this season over former world record holder Asafa Powell, who finished second in 10.00secs.
Jamaica’s Nesta Carter ran 10.15 for third with Marc Burns of Trinidad taking fourth in 10.37.
Jeter, who like Gay became the second fastest woman of all-time in the 100m in Shanghai at the weekend, ran 10.83secs (-0.4) to beat Jamaica’s Sherone Simpson in a distant second, at 11.35.
American triple world 200m champion Allyson Felix, who recently won this event, was fourth in 11.50
Jamaica’s world champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton wrapped up her season with another win in the women’s 100 hurdles.
The Berlin champion who has been undefeated since that accomplishment last month, won the race in a championships time of 12.60secs, running into a slight headwind. Olympic champion Dawn Harper finished second in 12.75, with Jamaica’s Nikeisha Wilson taking third in 12.96.
Dwight Thomas used his natural speed in the closing metres to win the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.36. The former Jamaican national sprint double champion got home in front of Gregory Sedoc of Netherlands, 13.45 and American Joel Brown (13.46).
Veteran Allen Johnson was fourth in 13.76.
World bronze medallists Wallace Spearmon of USA and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie from the Bahamas, won the men’s and women’s 200m dashes.
Spearmon clocked 20.29 )-1.8/mps) to eased away from the field which included Briton Jeffrey Balogun (20.98) and St. Kitts and Nevis’ Kim Collins (21.19).
Ferguson-McKenzie was also an easy winner in a windy women’s race — running 22.90 to beat Jamaica’s Shericka Williams (23.18) and the Cayman Islands’ Cydonie Mothersill (23.32).
Athens 2004 Olympic champion Felix Sanchez of the Felix Sanchez Dominican Republic won the men’s 400m hurdles in 48.94.
