Early results from the West Indies Under 19 Women’s cricket

Title-holders Trinidad &
Tobago crushed hosts St Lucia by 108 runs in an emphatic start to the
West Indies Under-19 women’s cricket championship on Monday afternoon.

T&T posted the day’s highest score to record the easy
win in the Zone B fixture at Mindoo Philip Park, while Jamaica,
Barbados and Guyana also registered victories on the opening day of the
eight-team championship.

Winners of the inaugural tournament in Jamaica three
years ago, T&T compiled 209 all out off 49 overs after they were
sent to bat. St Lucia struggled to 101 all out off 29.1 overs.

Top contenders Jamaica, with West Indies batting star Stafanie Taylor, steamrolled Dominica at the Dennery Ground.

Electing to bat, Dominica plunged to 30 all out with Tashara Brumant (7) the top-scorer.

Opening bowler Naisha-Ann Waisome snared 6-16 off five
overs and Chinelle Henry claimed 3-9 for the Jamaicans who then sped to
victory at 31 without loss in a mere 2.4 overs.

Taylor was not out on 17 at the end.

The tournament continues today.
