Jamaica’s Junior Fed Cup team, seeded seventh, rebounded from a 2-1 loss to the Dominican Republic to edge Panama 2-1 Tuesday in Group 4 action in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Sicquena Sinclair defeated Rosaline Chavez, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-5, and teamed up Shantal Blackwood in the doubles to outplay Chavez and Alma Espinosa, 6-3, 6-2. Espinosa beat Blackwood, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, earlier in the second singles.
On Monday, Jamaica lost to unseeded Dominican Republic, 2-1, when Michelle Valdez outpointed Sinclair, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0, but Blackwood tied up the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pamela Peguero.
Valdez and Peguero then defeated Blackwood and Monique Hanson, 6-3, 6-7 (1), 6-4, in the doubles.
Number two seed, the Bahamas, lead Group 4 and are undefeated after wins over Panama and hosts Dominica Republic.
In other group matches, number one seed Cuba beat Honduras 3-0 in Group One; number three seed Barbados beat Netherland Antilles 2-1 in Group Three; number four seed Guatemala drubbed Haiti 3-0 in Group Two, and number five seed El Salvador whipped Trinidad & Tobago, 3-0, in another Group Two match.
Meanwhile, in Junior Davis Cup, Jamaica, drawn in Group Three, have lost both matches they have played to Costa Rica and Bahamas.
Against Costa Rica, Jamaica’s Davis Cup boys lost 3-0 when Allan Raventos beat Rowland Phillips, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2; Jose Raventos stopped Jordan Harris, 6-3, 6-1, and Maurizio Feoli and Jose Raventos outplayed Harris and Phillips, 6-2, 6-1.
