Cuba secures sport in Digicel Caribbean Cup

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by pwalker on 29-10-2008

Having suffered a sub-par performance against Barbados, Cervantes redeemed himself in unbelievable fashion. In minute 11, it was Cervantes that broke the deadlock when he popped up at the far post unmarked, having switched flanks seconds before, to nod in Marques’ cross from the right. Suriname vs Netherland Antilles

Filed Under (Soccer) by pwalker on 26-10-2008

Suriname pulled out a narrow 2-1 victory over Netherland Antilles in their recently concluded Group G clash in the Digicel Caribbean Cup. Though it was really slow going in the first half, with neither side being able to assert dominance. It wasn’t until the second half when Suriname’s Cleven Wanabo pounced on a rebound to power it home past the keeper.  Wanabo made it two seven minutes later after being set up beautifully by Suriname’s Sandvliet on a swift flank move. The consolation goal came in the 83rd minute when Roasario Demy capitalized on a mistake to slot home at the near post and narrow the lead. At the end of the 90 minutes though, Suriname remained ahead to glean winners points.

Jamaica top Honduras

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by pwalker on 16-10-2008

A sternly contested  World Cup Qualifier between Jamaica and Honduras saw Jamaica coming out the victors. Luten Shelton put the Jamaicans 1 up in the 16th minute with a pass into the penalty box from his captain Ricardo Gardner. He turned on it beautifully, went past the sweeper as well as goalkeeper Noel Valladares before slotting a grounder to to the far side of the uprights. That was pretty much all she wrote as Jamaica maintained that 1-0 for the rest of the match.
