After a two week hospitalization, Herb McKenley has closed his eyes for the last time. McKenley, widely regarded as one of the most outstanding Olympians Jamaica has ever produced, has one gold and three silvers to his credit. As a result he was conferred with the nations third highest honour, the Honour of Merit in 2004. He’s also well regarded as one of the best athletic coaches Jamaica has produced, guiding the Calabar and JAAA teams to championship. Prime Minister Bruce Golding said, “Jamaica has lost one of our greatest achievers.”
