Jamaica wins KFC Cup

Jamaica are the 2007 winners of the Caribbean KFC Cup for Regional Limited Overs Cricket. They defeat the defending champions Trinidad and Tobago by 28 runs to win. In a match that is historically the first day/night final of a regional Tournament, Jamaica amassed 230 all out in their time at bat. Trinidad chased but was unable to make more than 202 before being bowled out. Jerome Taylor was named man of the match.

Donald Peters new head of WICB

As of November 5, the West Indies Cricket Board will be sporting a new head. Dr. Donald Peters, former president of the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, is the new appointed Chief Executive Officer of the WICB.

“I am excited to be selected as CEO and look forward to working with the organization to provide the support and administration necessary to make our team move once again to the top of international cricket”. said Peters.

St. Vincent Football has a new head

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation has ousted it’s previous president Major St. Clair Leacock and put in his place Joseph Delves by the narrowest of margins. Leacock was beaten by 1 vote. When the votes were counted, Leacock stood at 39 and Delves at 40.

John Dyson new Windies Coach

The West Indies Cricket board broke months of speculation by appointing John Dyson as their new cricket coach. Dyson, an Australian national, has seen some 30 test with his countrymen under his belt. His previous appointment saw him in charge of Sri Lanka. Seeing them to 5 wins and 6 draws in 16 tests and 21 victories from 29 one day internationals.

Bahamas stun Jamaica 1-0

The Bahamas stun heavy favourites Jamaica 1-0 in the football qualifiers for next Olympics to be held in Beijing, China. Jamaica had a lackluster performance but to the credit of the Bahamians they stuck to the task and scored in the 84th minute to crash any hopes the Jamaicans had of qualifying. Read more here

Bahamas House of Assembly honours World’s athletes

The house of Assembly recently recognised the amazing performances of Bahamian athletes at the 2006 World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan. The highlight performances were Donald Thomas’s gold medal in the mens high jump, Derrick Watkins taking silver in the stellar mens 100m and the men’s 4×400 silver performance. Details

Trinidad beat Winwards

As the KFC Cup marches on, Trinidad registered a decisive win over the Winwards winning by seven wickets. Powered by an aggressive knock from Lendl Simmons who ripped apart the Winward attack by slamming nine fours and two sixes, the Trinis sped to victory in just 20 overs. Jamaica top Leewards

Jamaica made an impressive start to their KFC Limited Overs campaign with a six wicket win over the Leewards. The Leewards won the toss and went in to bat but soon found themselves all out for 167. Jamaica then took the reigns and strolled home at 169 for four in 39.5 overs led by Shawn Findlay, 41 and Brenton Parchment, 40.

The 2007 Special Olympics is now underway in Shanghai and the Caribbean contingent are carrying the flag high. Jamaica seems to be charting the course with 34 medals so far.
